A Project Manager vacancy is available at Wits Health Consortium in Braamfontein - Johannesburg.



Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC“) is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.

Main purpose of the job

  • To project manage and coordinate the activities across CLS studies, according to good clinical laboratory practice (GCLP), ISO Contact Number standards and sponsor requirements


  • Braamfontein - JHB

Key performance areas

  • Map processes and ensure that they are coordinated to meet desired goals
  • Extract information from protocols to write a laboratory analytical plan (tests) and coordinate trials
  • Develop and review Scope of work (SOW) and ensure that tasks are completed as stipulated, within the specified timeframes
  • Initiate meetings to discuss activities, provide updates and resolve issues
  • Renegotiate commitments and deadlines as circumstances dictate
  • Ensure that outcomes are evaluated and that problems are resolved
  • Develop quotations and budgets as required
  • Occasionally assist with Laboratory testing

Required minimum education and training

  • BSc Medical Science or Life Sciences or National Diploma in Biomedical Technology

Professional body registration

  • Registration with HPCSA as Medical Technologist

Required minimum work experience

  • 4 years in a Laboratory environment

Additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • Clinical pathology specialty preferred
  • Clinical trials experience advantageous
  • Ability to read and understand scientific protocols
  • High attention to detail
  • Certificate in Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to develop budgets and costing on projects
  • Understanding of Business principles and areas of business
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Understand how to develop quotations from tests extracted in the protocol
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Good negotiation skills
  • Able to work overtime and travel to Africa from time to time
